One of the first things you noticed about the charter cruises you’ve looked at is how expensive they are compared to regular cruises of similar length and cabin class on the same cruise line at the same time.  I won’t lie, they are indeed expensive.  But there are ways to bring the price down a little or a lot.

  •  BOOK EARLY

Often these cruises can be booked a year or more before they are due to sail.  This usually the best price you can get as prices tend to increase until all cabins are sold out.

  •  BOOK ANOTHER CRUISE FROM THE SAME CHARTER COMPANY

This can involve either booking the same cruise for a future year or booking a different cruise but from the same charter company that sails either later the same year or the next year.  The discount amount varies, but once you purchase a charter, other charters from the same company will be cheaper

  •  PAY IN FULL WHEN BOOKING

Some companies offer a discount of about 5% when the bill is paid in full at the time of booking.  Depending on the cost of the cabin, this can save several hundred dollars.

  • IF YOU’RE TRAVELING SOLO, LOOK FOR SINGLE OCCUPANCY FARES

Many companies will either have a special code for people traveling by themselves or they will allocate cabins at special rates for single occupancy.  Mostly they are for interior cabins.

  •  BUY NOW, PAY LATER

If you purchase a cruise in March, for example, you can be offered options to make two, three, four, or eight payments.  This won’t necessarily save you money but pushing payments out for several months can make it easier to pay the charter bill as required.  You can make payments early or make additional payments, though neither of these will affect the total bill.

  •  GET ON THE MAILING LISTS

When the rare discounts occur, those on the mailing list for that cruise are the first to know about them.  This is one of many reasons to sign up for the many mailing lists of the cruises that might interest you now or sometime in the future.  It’s always free to sign up.
